Man stabbed in Sunny Isle Shopping Center - Virgin Islands Daily News

ST. CROIX - An unidentified man was rushed to Luis Hospital onFriday afternoon shortly after he was stabbed in Sunny Isle ShoppingCenter.

Details were sketchy Friday but preliminary reports indicate thatthe stabbing occurred near the north side of the shopping centerabout 5 p.m. - a time usually when the shopping center is bustlingwith activity as employees leave for the day and shoppers patronizethe stores just before closing stime.

Luis Hospital officials confirmed that a stabbing victim had beentaken to the hospital from Sunny Isle but declined to give furtherdetails.

Several Police Department sport utility vehicles were on thecrime scene Friday and a small crowd had gathered but no oneacknowledged seeing the stabbing. Police referred all questions toDeputy Police Chief Herminio Velazquez.

Velazquez could not be reached Friday and other top departmentofficials including Police Commissioner Elton Lewis, TerritorialPolice Chief Novelle Francis Jr. and department spokesman Sgt.Thomas Hannah, were on St. Thomas for a Police Department-sponsoredtown meeting.

Police led two men away in handcuffs at the scene and an officercould be seen standing near an ambulance, which was parked nearKmart but several hundred feet from the center of police activity,holding a gold necklace in her hands, which were covered with blood.
